Update: All lanes on the bridge have been reopened, according to the MTA.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A car fire on the Staten Island-bound upper level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge caused traffic delays on the span Thursday afternoon.

The FDNY said firefighters responded to the roadway at 5:54 p.m. and that the blaze was placed under control at 6:11 p.m.

The MTA said two lanes of the bridge were blocked as of 6:13 p.m. and recommended motorists use the lower level while allowing for extra travel time.

Google Maps shows a heavy slowdown on the span as of 6:22 p.m.

No injuries were reported, officials said.
