The northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed between exits 77 and 80 as firefighters work to extinguish a tractor-trailer that’s on fire, PennDOT officials said.
PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler estimated traffic could be affected for about two hours while the scene is cleared. The tractor-trailer will need to be towed and whatever it was hauling transferred to another vehicle, she said.
Traffic is affected on the northern side of the highway between exit 77 to Route 39 and exit 80 to Route 743.
The fire was first reported around noon.
Schreffler said it appears the tractor-trailer did not catch fire as the result of a crash. PennDOT isn’t aware of any injuries because of the blaze.
